There 'll be pie, away from Bluesky
It's clear that many people need, or for some other reason uses microblogs as something to kill time with when they have a minute. So that that becomes the most common thing in the feeds. It also feels pretty obvious that microblogs are used for bragging about social status, for creating informal gated communities. And maybe Bluesky can never be more than that. But:
The purpose with Bluesky is maybe not just one. But since it started as a reaction on the Musk/Maga-crazieness, one should be to serve as a tool against them. But I think that we all know that it's easy to gather a big movement in opposition to something, and difficult to get any further than that. As soon as movements start to ask questions about where to go, they become divided in a number of groups who tend to get in opposition to each other. So it's pretty meaningless to build a movement in opposition to something, if you don't from the beginning are clear about your ambitions.
The ambitions of typical Bluesky-people should be everything that has to do with good life, passions, serious discussions, science instead of superstition. Maybe more like that. Those are things that are not compatible with Maga. So, in order to be in opposition to Maga - the best way forward is to indulge in good life, passions, serious discussions and science - and maybe more like that.
Then there are better apps for some thing. Like Storygraph for book-reviewing, Pixelfed for photographs, Letterboxd for film-reviewing, different things for videostreaming. So those things can be posted about in a good way on Bluesky. My personal experience though is that my life gets better when I keep the big information flow of Bluesky at a distance. Almost to keep it away from the phone, to use on a computer instead, when the situation occurs that I have time to sit down for a few hours with it or so.
Today I started my day with a couple of cups of coffee and a few episodes from 2 different podcasts, one of which I would never had known about if it weren't for Bluesky. And that was really nice! A british poetry-pod with an autumn-special for example. With this thought I hadn't thought about, that it feels more like a new year in September/October with the changing of colour in the leaves, than it feels in the beginning of January. Makes it easy to think about the autumn-tradition of eating home baked apple pie (better with vanilla sauce than cream) and about my for example very nostalgic memories from childhood of autumn-times when there were time for reading books (in adult life - to listen to vinyls mostly).
When Johnny Cash lived, it was like "There 'll be pie in the sky". We can have pie when pausing from Bluesky.
